How often have you had a beautiful 4×6 and wondered how it would look larger? If I could count all the times I’ve looked a photo and said “hey, I wonder if this would make a nice bathroom mural..;) “ Of course, I always get shot down on this idea and redirected to print a nice 20X30 instead. The reality is you need more megapixels and higher dpi in order to make a large quality print. Often times, we are faced with a file that needs to be increased in size in order to provide the quality we need for these larger prints. Photoshop has up-sizing capability but to be honest it’s a hassle. If have found plug-ins like onOne Software’s Genuine Fractals and Alien Skin Blow Up 2 provide the best results with the least amount of hassle. The downside of course are the plug-ins are not free but you can download them and try them on demo basis. Image resizing can be a pain but with the right software and know how it can be as simple and clicking a button.
