In my photography course, one of the rules we cover is the coveted “rules of thirds”. From Liz Masoner: “The rule of thirds is an imaginary tic-tac-toe board drawn across an image to break it into nine equal squares. The four points where these lines intersect are the strongest focal points. The lines themselves are the second strongest focal points”. Like all rules, it’s meant to be broken - on occasion. Here’s another site that does a nice job graphically of displaying the rule…click HERE. Today’s photos come from Nichole Anderson. She doesn’t have a public website for her work, but please feel free to leave her a few comments here. She did an excellent job in July’s class and deserves the recognition. I’m sure we’ll see more of her in the future.
My workshop information can be found HERE.

Great composition, love the depth of field. Did you use a macro lense?
Stacy, I used the macro setting on my camera along with the aperture priority setting at its smallest (2.7). Then I took the picture darn near right on top of this katydid! He must not have minded because he is still hanging out on my poppy flowers today, munching away!
Thanks for your nice comments!
Looks like a pro shot this Nichole! I’m impressed…REALLY!!!
Great pics Nichole! Love the close up of the katydid! Congrats!
Excellent photographs, Nichole. And, I’m not a big bug fan!

What beautiful shots…especially the katydid! I, too, love the depth of field (or lack thereof) on this shot. You have a great eye!

Lynne,
You can always check out the latest Scott Kelby Live seminars by clicking on this link http://www.kelbytraininglive.com My only suggestion is to try to pick one that’s designed around photographers. It look like there’s one going on in Kentucky in August. http://www.kelbytraininglive.com/photographerstour.html. Hope that helps. John
