Washington Monument (25.0 sec at f/13, 48mm, ISO 160)
I’m back from my East coast trip and I’m here to tell you I really enjoyed it. NYC and DC proved to be a wonderful photography experience. I had zero expectations going into the trip and I came out surprising myself with how much I enjoyed it. While I enjoyed photographing parts of NYC’s Central Park, I think I was most surprised about how beautiful D.C. was, and particularly in the evening. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom and the city was boiling with people, but at night things seemed to die down a bit, and it was then that I fell in love with the city and its history. My tripod doesn’t always get the love it deserves, but for these night shots it was a necessity. I had mentioned that I had bought a focus screen but I also picked up a hot shoe bubble level that really came in handy for many shots.
Now, for the 365 update. Ok, I knew this project was going to push me outside my comfort zone and that’s why I decided to do this crazy 365 thingy. But I’m into day 6 now and I’m already thinking to myself “What the heck were you thinking?” Truth be told, I think I need a 365 sponsor. I mean I’m not even a week into this and I’m trying keep myself from jumping off the pixel wagon. I was really close to quitting last night, and I even debated changing the time/stamp on my camera…;) (I would never) But then it dawned on me it’s ok to suck…that’s the challenge. These aren’t images I would normally take, and that’s the point, so I’ve decided to label my project after one of my favorite spaghetti westerns…”The good, the bad, and a whole lot of ugly” You can follow my 365 stream HERE; and if I get close to jumping off the cliff I might drop one of you fellow 365’rs a note.
p.s. What Spring Brings contest is going really well…make sure to upload your photos on Facebook HERE or Flickr Group HERE

My name is Mark…and I’m a 365′er.
Three years ago, 2007, I did a 365 Project (here it is, over at Flickr: http://tinyurl.com/y967cjy) I had to start it on January 1, and started and stopped at least twice before. And, honestly, my photos, especially the early ones, are lousy. But I think the project helped me get better as a photographer, and by tend of it, I was starting to “see” images rather than just taking a snapshot. Some days you may have to – my dogs and little girl bailed me out a few times. You are off to a great start though. Keep it up! And reach out if you need some pixelated fortitude.
Mark,
Thanks for sending me the link. I might steal a few ideas here and there.
LOL! This post is great and you crack me up!
I’ll be your sponsor
what does it entail?
xo,
C
I’m glad I made you laugh. Can you send raw files on demand that I can call my own?
Keep it up john I know youll make it. will I thats another story Its rainy and cold and I have 0 energy oh and 0 creativity flowing right now
If you’re ever at a loss for ideas, two suggestions…
-The Daily Shoot posts a prompt every day. You wouldn’t have to participate in the site if you didn’t want to, but you could still use the ideas.
-DPS posts weekly prompts. Again, you wouldn’t have to participate on the site, but you could use the prompts.
I wish you well with it. I only lasted 12 days I think lol
Erin,
I’ll check DPS out…..since I’m a competitive kinda guy…I’ll make sure to go at least 12 days so I tie you..;) Thanks again for dropping me a note.
I love this shot. Continued success on the 365 – looks good so far.
Lori,
I’m glad you liked it. The dead trees were a major bonus to framing the shot.
Good luck on your 365 day project! Hope you keep the motivation going! Lol, sorry I got nothing to sponsor you with. Nothin more than motivation
Brandon….thanks for the motivational love…;)
I’ve done 30 days of black and white, but have never attempted a 365 days project..yet.. Sounds neat, I may just give it a whirl in the near future. You can do this John..If it happens you can’t get anywhere to shoot.. Step outside your door take a few steps to your left and shoot!
Julie,
Thanks for the encouragement. I have a feeling I’ll be stepping out my back door quite a bit….shooting to the left, the right…up and down and all around..;)
