While in D.C. I of course made the journey to get a glimpse of the White House. I will admit I was caught off guard by its size because I truly thought for whatever reason it was going to be much larger. The view of the south side of the White House was partially obstructed as they were preparing for the White House Easter Egg Roll. For that reason, I decided to focus my attention on the 1600 Pennsylvania Ave side or north side. I’m not ashamed to admit, the whole process felt a bit pedestrian as you fight your way through the crowds to get an angle on an images that’s been photographed countless times. There’s only so many ways you can photograph the White House through a fence competing with the hordes of people around you, police behind you, and snipers on the roof. I mean I guess I could have tried to climb the fence for a better angle but I don’t think it would have been well received. Instead, I used my 16-35, stuck it through the fence and did my best to give it a spring look by framing in the blooming white magnolia tree on the left. Is it a perfect picture…nah, but it’s mine.
Another thing to always keep in mind is step back and survey your surroundings because you don’t want to miss out some of the more interesting photos surrounding the “event” so to speak.
