First place goes to Sabrina Henry for her beautiful tulip photo. I really enjoyed the balance and color of the image, but what pushed me over was the one lone tulip bending out in between the rows. It’s a wonderful image…Congrats!
Second place goes to Laurie Higby-Fletcher with her male Cardinal. This image just really pops out and the vignette and burning really bring the Cardinal into the focus. Great color, great detail…well done! I want to thank everyone for participating, and keep following for our next contest.
As some of you know I was interviewed by Heber Vega last week and I want to give a very sincere thank you to those of you who took the time to stop over to Heber’s blog HERE. And…A very special thanks to those of you who left some kind remarks. I know firsthand the power of encouragement. If it wasn’t for your support and feedback this blog wouldn’t be possible because frankly I wouldn’t have the desire to write it. So thanks once again for reminding me that I have the best group of readers around.
Last note: I’ve been very busy this last week getting ready for my upcoming trip to India to photograph Kumbh Mela festival in Haridwar. Packing for this trip has proven to be a little more difficult than my previous trips. Usually I have the gear nailed down and it’s just a matter of figuring out the clothing– how many pairs of socks…how many boxers…how many pants…do I take my red hat or my brown hat? (because I look good darn good in the red hat…;) But, no this time it’s all about the gear, simply because of the variety of shooting I’m planning on doing. I have all my street photography gear, my landscape stuff, and then portable portrait gear. The reality is I probably won’t need all of it, so the selection process of trying to narrow down exactly what’s in and what’s out is pretty rough this time around. But at the same time I don’t want to be half way around the world wishing I had just that one piece of gear I left out. But rest assured, once I have my final selection figured out I’ll make sure to share it with all of you. But for right now the one thing we know for sure is I’m taking the red hat
p.s. Sabrina and Laurie, the contest winners, should contact me at john@batdorffphotography.com with their addresses so I can get the prizes off to you as soon as possible.

That might help.
LOL…trust me I’ve been reminding myself. But, I sure do love my gear…;)
Congratulations to the winners! I am in awe looking at everyone’s photos! I am an aspiring photographer w/ a pretty basic camera… so, I’m curious, what kind of camera does everyone use, why do you like it and how did you learn? I have a good eye, now I just need the equipment to see what I see when I look at the world.
Love the tulips and love that you got right down there to take it from a more interesting angle. Nice job
John:
Beautiful images, what a difficult decision in picking a winner. Loved both perspectives on the tulips and the cardinal.
Have a safe journey to India. I am looking forward to the amazing shots you will come back with.
