Shutterstock Photo Safari Contest Winning Image

Ok…I’m a little giddy right now and I’m sporting a smile ear to ear. Why you ask?  Well, I just found out that I won Shutterstock’s 2010 Photo Safari Contest.   Wow…did you hear that?  That’s right…someone is going to AFRICA!   I’m blown away because I truly didn’t expect to win.  Heck, I almost missed out on the contest, but saw David duChemin’s tweet promoting it on the last date of entry!   Oh yeah, that’s right, a huge big thanks to David and all that he does for his readers.  Frankly, the prize is awesome, but for me it’s all about the judges.  You couldn’t have picked a more important group of judges for me.  I’ve been following Zack Arias, Chase Jarvis and David duChemin for years now, and being judged by them is simply the best.   Just the fact that they looked over my work, let alone picked me, is awesome in itself….so thanks guys.  A very special thanks to all my readers that voted for my image.   It sincerely means a lot to me to have such a great group of readers.  Last but not least,  a very special thanks to Shutterstock, B&H, and Zozi for sponsoring the contest and inspiring photographers like me to enter. Well…I could go on and on and next thing you know they’ll be cueing the music like at the Oscars, so thanks again to the judges and to all of you that voted, and a special thanks to my family, who’s support means everything. I’ll plan on posting Monday about the image because some of you might want to know just a tad bit more about it.  ‘Til then, take care.

P.S. One more thanks for Andy for lugging the heavy medium format camera around on the trip.

Congratulations John. That’s a fabulous prize, and of course a great image. You did something very different than the other people who submitted Taj Mahal photographs. Have a fantastic time on the trip, looking forward to seeing and hearing about it.

    John,

I am disappointed it is not my photo ‘Got no milk!’ which was selected!

Your photo is stunning! … I looked at your portfolio and I have to say you are creating amazing images.

    Félicitations!
