I just received a copy of “Vivian Maier: Street Photographer” and all I can say is wow! Her street photography is simply amazing and definitely a source of inspiration. I’m not sure if she would have enjoyed her fame if she were still alive, or if she even would have wanted to share her entire body of work. But, I suspect, like all artists, she would have found some pleasure in knowing her work was appreciated and respected by so many people.
I love her story and I would hope it would strike a chord with anyone who has ever chased the dream of being discovered. Vivian’s work reminds me that a portfolio takes time to establish (in her case over 100,000 slides). Looking at her images I realize the level of passion, dedication and skill that has been honed over the thousands of memories she recorded one frame at a time. Ultimately, it was her dedication and fascination with documenting the world around her that led to an incredible body of work.
