New York City is one of my favorite locations to photograph and that’s why we created a weekend photo workshop dedicated to NYC photography. The hustle and bustle, the colorful characters, the amazing architecture, an efficient public transportation system, the best cheesecake and pizza in the world…and B&H! New York’s got it all, and you should join us there for an unforgettable NYC photo workshop.
John Batdorff is a professional photographer, author, and authority on Travel and Street Photography. Staci has been a photographer for years and has been along with John on all of his photographic adventures. She is also the studio manager, logistics queen, and macro specialist. The two of us love nothing more than exploring a city together, and we’d love to show you all the best spots and photography techniques to really capture the essence of New York City.
During our New York City photography workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of street and urban photography, cover strategies for getting the shot, and discuss legal and ethical issues of photographing on the street. Then we’ll go out and practice our new skills in a city ripe with photographic opportunities. Finally we’ll process our photos together to make sure you have finished photos and new post-processing skills to take home. Each attendee will receive a copy of my latest ebook on Street Photography along with my Signature Series Presets. Oh, did I mention you’ll be going home with some fantastic photos as well!
New York City Photo Workshop Itinerary
Day 1: The first afternoon we’ll begin at 1:00pm at the classroom in Chelsea near 23rd and 5th Ave. We’ll meet and greet, discuss questions, and have a presentation on street and urban photography. Then once we’re properly enriched in the classroom, we’ll head out to the High Line to get warmed up. We’ll take the train from the end of the High Line towards Time’s Square for dinner together. After dinner we’ll dive into night photography in the big city capturing Times Square in all of it’s glowing glory. We’ll call it a night around 10:00pm so you can get home and rest before the big day.
Day 2: Today we’ll start our journey by heading over to Brooklyn’s Coney Island. After we photograph there, we’ll make our way back into the city to explore some of New York’s most unique and colorful neighborhoods, including China Town, Little Italy, and SoHo. We’ll be done by sunset so that you can head back to your lodging to relax for tomorrow’s early start. Dinner will be on your own.
Day 3: We will start off with an early morning capture of the Brooklyn Bridge. We’ll meet near City Hall bright and early and walk the bridge. After getting an iconic Brooklyn Bridge photo and stopping for coffee, we head back to the classroom at 10:00am to process some of the previous days’ photos. We’ll spend the bulk of the day learning Lightroom working through processing and answering any questions. You’ll get one-on-one help from Staci and John to make sure you’re leaving a great trip with great photos. We’ll order lunch in and work hard until around 3:00pm when we’ll dismiss after a whirlwind experience in one of the greatest cities in the world.
